This year’s acquaintance day at Jesus College, University of Oxford was an immense success. 40 students from Pembrokeshire schools met and chatted with current undergraduates, received inspirational lectures, visited local museums and even a busy Neuroscience laboratory working at the cutting edge of science. A sincere thanks to those who contributed to the trip, including volunteers, teachers and Berwin Cave Leighton Paisner LLP who helped ensure the inspirational trip was free for all students.

The Horizons Wales team were approachable and determined. I was very fortunate to be provided with a specialist medical-admissions mentor from the University of Oxford. My prescribed mentor, Chris, offered me first-hand insight into their admissions process and a critical appraisal of my personal statement. With the uncompromising support of the team – and a great deal of good fortune – I got interviewed at all my choices including the University of Cambridge and am now studying medicine at Imperial College. I have volunteered as a mentor & student ambassador for Horizons Wales so that I can now help future aspiring applicants.
Albert Ugwudike, Medical Student at Imperial College
I was mentored by John during my application process for Physiotherapy. He helped me to improve my communication skills and understand the difference between knowledge, skills and values. I met John for interview practise where he helped me to make the most of my work experiences when discussing them with an interview panel. Since then I am delighted to have been offered a place at my first choice university.

The Cambridge Acquaintance day was amazing! The great hall was just like something out of Harry Potter. The people were really nice and just like us which surprised me. My friends and I want to apply to Cambridge now!
Millie, Year 8 Student, Pembroke School
The help and support which I received from Horizons Wales during the university application and interview process has been extremely helpful. The interview practice from the two specialist mentors I was assigned proved invaluable on the day! I have since obtained offers from all of my choices including the University of Oxford and Imperial College.
